Happy New Year, in keeping with a GR tradition, my first guest of this new year is the self-educated author, activist, martial artist, and vegan, New York City's own Mickey Z.

Mickey's book titles include: ‘The Seven Deadly Spins,’ ‘A Giant Mistake: Articles and Essays for Your Intellectual Self-Defence,’ and ‘The Murdering of My Years.’ and his latest, ‘50 American Revolutions You’re Not Supposed to Know: Reclaiming American Patriotism.’

According to Mickey's Cool Observer website, he enjoys sunsets, rainbows, and anarcho-syndicalism, but dilikes mean people, traffic, and factory farming. Mickey Z. in the first half.

And, as we atone the sins of over-consumption this first day of the Christian new year, Palestinians continue to suffer in atonement for sins they never committed.

Yesterday I reached Canadian journalist and long-time friend of both the Palestinian struggle and creator of the website From Occupied Palestine, Jon Elmer. Jon is back in Gaza, reporting on developments there.

And, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with some of the good things you can get up to in the coming week.

But first, the year that was with Mickey Z.
