Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Jeremy Kuzmarov, Dan Kovalik May 13, 2021

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s Home Edition, recorded on the dates, May 7th and 10th, 2021.

War and rumours of it quickened yesterday, as Biden Secretary of State, Antony Blinken’s whirlwind Sabre Rattling Tour touched down in Kiev. Blinken, freshly arrived from G-7 meetings in London, picked up where he left off chastening “authoritarian states” around the World he claimed were, “trying to play us against each other”. Presumably addressed to China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea, countries who in another time might constitute an “Axis of Evil”, Blinken pointedly reminded, “… we hold our values of democracy, state of law, human rights and a global order based on rules against them, united and credibly.”

But is it all credible; does the new president and his energetic secretary really mean to marshal the troops for a new war of empire? A new series by the Intercept’s Jeremy Scahill attempts to plumb the depths of the new President’s character and divine his intentions; an attempt my first guest says, while “impressive and informative…ignores certain unflattering historical facts and perpetuates a few popular misperceptions.”

Jeremy Kuzmarov is a journalist and author who serves too as Managing Editor of CovertAction Magazine. He’s the author of four books on U.S. foreign policy, including: ‘Obama’s Unending Wars’, and ‘The Russians Are Coming, Again’ co-authored with John Marciano. His latest at CovertAction is ‘Did Jeremy Scahill’s Analysis Fumble the Ball in Its Indictment of Joe Biden as an “Empire Politician”?’

Jeremy Kuzmarov in the first half.

And; the so-called “cancel culture” was a common invocation of right-wing American politicos and Trump supporters who claimed their left wing and progressive opponents were using “cancellation” to silence legitimate debate and rights to free speech guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. Now, those voices of concern have been joined from the progressive side of the political spectrum by labour lawyer, human rights activist, author, and essayist, Dan Kovalik.

Dan is too a recipient of the David W. Mills Mentoring Fellowship from Stanford Law School, a frequent lecturer, oft sought television and radio political commentator, and his articles appear online at Counterpunch and Gorilla Radio Blog, among other places. His latest book is, ‘Cancel This Book: The Progressive Case Against Cancel Culture‘.

Dan Kovalik and turning the worm on Cancel Culture in the second half.

But first, Jeremy Kuzmarov and, Joe Biden: Tool of Empire, or merely tool?

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Ron Ridenour November 2, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s home edition, recorded on this date, November 2nd, 2020.

This week America’s election carnival will come to a head. What happens over the months following is anyone’s guess, but there’s less uncertainty for the Julian Assange extradition hearings in London’s Old Bailey where presiding magistrate, Vanessa Baraitser adjourned proceedings saying, “One way or another, my decision is likely to go after the US elections.” The hearing will resume January 4th, and Baraitser will assuredly rule as bidden to by whomever will reside on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Ron Ridenour is a journalist, author, editor, and peace and social justice activist. The ex-pat American has lived and worked in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Bolivia and currently calls Denmark home. He’s worked too as a special correspondent and freelancer for numerous publications in Europe the US, and Latin America, and served as press aid to Bolivia’s president, Evo Morales and the governments of Cuba and Nicaragua. Some of Ridenour’s many book titles include: ‘The Russian Peace Threat: Pentagon on Alert’, ‘Cuba: Revolution in Action’, ‘Backfire: The CIA’s Biggest Burn’, and his latest, still in progress, ‘Winding Brook Stories’.

Ron’s articles feature at numerous online sites, including on ThisCantBeHappening.net, where his ‘A Horror Story in Two Parts: Will England Send Assange-the-Messenger to America’s Dungeons?’ and ‘A Travesty of Justice: UK Caters to the US Government’s Desire to Crush Assange’ appear.

Today, Ron Ridenour and coming out of the trenches for Julian Assange and WikiLeaks.

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Dave Lindorff October 28, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s home edition recorded live-to-tape via Skype on this date, October 28th, 2020.

Monday, October 26th Philadelphia citizen, Walter Wallace Jr. was shot dead by police. His killing was caught on camera and has sparked demonstrations of both the peaceful and violent kind. Wallace was a black man, suffering mental problems. He was known to police, and his family had specifically asked for medical assistance WITHOUT police. Both the shooting and demonstrations have become a part of the political debate, as America nears the November 3rd presidential election.

Dave Lindorff is an award-winning journalist, author, and founding member of the media collective, ThisCan’tBeHappening.net.

Lindorff’s book titles include, ‘The Case for Impeachment: Legal Arguments for Removing President George W. Bush from Office’ and ‘This Can’t Be Happening! Resisting the Disintegration of American Democracy.’ Dave lives just outside Philadelphia and is following the situation there.

Today, Dave Lindorff answers the burning question, “Is Philadelphia Burning?”

Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Dave Lindorff July 21, 2020

Welcome back to Gorilla Radio’s continuing efforts, NOT broadcast live from CFUV Radio in the basement of the Student Union Building at the University of Victoria, but emanating live-to-tape via Skype from our home-based … studios on this date, July 21st, 2020.

As with much of Donald Trump’s televised behaviour his June 1st march, Bible in hand, from the Oval Office to St. John’s Church across Lafayette Square would be just another comic display we’ve come to expect from the orange-faced clown president, but for the club-swinging, gas projectile-shooting goon squad preceding he and his clatch of reluctant government A-list photo-op backdroppers. But, there’s nothing funny about what that media exercise was meant to convey and what it means for the near future of America.

Dave Lindorff is an independent, award-winning journalist, author, and founding editor of the news website, ThisCantBeHappening.net. His articles can too be found at Salon.com and The Nation magazine, where his recent piece, ‘Tear Gas and Clubs in Lafayette Square Were Just the Beginning’ appears.
