Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, Stavroula Pabst, T.J. Coles October 11, 2023

Welcome to Gorilla Radio, recorded October 11th, 2023

There is perhaps no greater symbol of the vagaries of empire than Granada’s Alhambra. The fabulous palace, product of the thirteenth century Nasrid Dynasty, last bastion of the Moors on the Iberian Peninsula, and home to Emperor Carlos the Fifth before its abandonment in the eighteenth century during the French occupation of Spain, played host last week to The Third Summit of the European Political Community.

French President Emmanuel Macron’s brainchild is meant to be a, “platform for political coordination among European countries across the continent… to promote political dialogue and cooperation… to strengthen […] security, stability, and prosperity“.

Though the third iteration of the EPC was dismissed in the press as a failure on multiple fronts, the summit did provide a further chance for the would-be Technocrat Emperors of a New Europe to cement plans for the digital transition of the continent, something they have made a “key goal“.

Stavroula Pabst is a writer, comedian, and PhD student in Communications and Mass Media Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her writing appears online at The Grayzone, Reductress, the Harvard Business Review, and Unlimited Hangout. Stavroula’s work is also featured at Substack, where she’s just launched the TechXGeopolitics Newsletter, and it’s where I found her latest article, ‘EU Digital Identity Wallet Pilots Roll Out Under the Radar‘.

And; as the leaders of Western civilization cheer the obliteration of the captive population of Gaza, no one need be reminded we live in dark and dangerous times. But even the most jaded are ill-prepared for the revelations of the abysmal depth and gaping width of depravity afforded through the aegis of the Covid-19 response.

T. J. Coles is director of the Plymouth Institute for Peace Research and the author of numerous books, including: ‘The War on You’, Manufacturing Terrorism’, ‘Capitalism and Coronavirus: How Institutionalized Greed Turned a Crisis into a Catastrophe ‘, ‘Biofascism: The Tech-Pharma Complex and the End of Democracy’, and many others. His latest is, ‘The Pfizer Papers: The Secret Documents Exposing Big Pharma’s COVID Vaccine Crimes‘, an investigation into what is certainly the greatest crime of this young century, and perhaps the greatest in history.

But first, Stavroula Pabst and the digital architecture of dystopia being built right before your eyes.

True to this time of lies, “free” is the name given to the attempt to capture and enslave the people of the World, while the word “trade” serves as a wry misnomer, meant to convince us the artful deals of the masters of capital are both consensual, and somehow mutually beneficial.

Together, ‘Free Trade’ is a concept Orwell would recognize, and cry laughing at the bitter predictability of.

Dr. T.J. Coles is an Associate Researcher at the Organisation for Propaganda Studies, a columnist for AxisOfLogic.com, and author.

Coles’ articles too appear online at CounterPunch, Truthout and Z Magazine, among other places, and his many book titles include: ‘Real Fake News’, Britain’s Secret Wars’, ‘The Great Brexit Swindle’, ‘Manufacturing Terrorism: When Governments Use Fear to Justify Foreign Wars and Control Society’, and his latest, ‘Privatized Planet: ‘Free Trade’ as a Weapon Against Healthcare, Democracy and the Environment’.

Journalist and filmmaker, John Pilger says, “In this meticulously sourced book, T.J. Coles breaks down the facade of “free trade” and its army of acronyms, spelling out the threat from an extremism that wants your healthcare, wages, pensions and much more. You have been warned.”

And; readers of Marx, Karl not Groucho, remember the term, “Après moi, le déluge!” It was meant by Marx to indicate the contempt in which all capitalists must hold the life of the lowly labourer. How else can captains of industry masticate and disgorge the legions required to maximize profit, and relentlessly grow the economy? But, endless progress demands a certain, strategic short-sightedness, a disregard for the consequences of one’s actions. It’s a wilful blindness increasingly difficult to maintain today, where King Louis XV’s phrase, “After me, the deluge” now belongs to us all and encompasses the whole of the World: “Après nous le déluge!” After US, the flood.

Inveterate American activist and singer/songwriter, David Rovics has for decades toured the World bringing his message of revolution and evolution for and to the masses. He’s shared the stage with the greats of the age: Pete Seeger, Anne Feeney, Joan Baez, Chumbawamba, Billy Bragg, Attila the Stockbroker, and countless others. David is too a frequent essayist, and now a regular columnist at Dissident Voice, a podcaster, and Danish barista… Safe to say he’s done a lot of things, but now David Rovics is set to enter the least illuminated of all Canada’s dark corners, Ottawa, Ontario, (beatless heart of a heartless, beaten nation) for an evening of music, fun, and class struggle.

David Rovics, before the flood in the second half.

And Victoria-based activist and long-time Gorilla Radio contributor, Janine Bandcroft will be here at the bottom of the hour with the Left Coast Events Bulletin of some of the good things to be gotten up to in and around our town in the coming week. But first, T. J. Coles and Privatized Planet: Free Trade As a Weapon Against Democracy, Healthcare and the Environment.

Terrorism didn’t begin on 9/11, but the World did indeed change that day. The United States and its allies, since September 2001, have leveraged the coordinated attack against the World Trade Center and Pentagon to usher in security states at home, and endless war across the globe – or what was initially called the Global War on Terror. In the months preceding America’s retaliatory bombing and invasion of Afghanistan, (the alleged base of operations of the attack’s perpetrators) millions across the planet came out into the streets, imploring the George W. Bush administration stay its hand until a proper investigation provided proof of culpability.

Those demonstrators were ignored, as were subsequent objections to the serial wars to follow.

Dr. T.J. Coles is an Associate Researcher at the Organisation for Propaganda Studies, a columnist for AxisOfLogic.com, and author. Coles’ articles too appear online at CounterPunch, Truthout and Z Magazine, among other places, and his many book titles include: ‘Real Fake News’, ‘Privatized Planet’, Britain’s Secret Wars’, ‘The Great Brexit Swindle’, and the newly released, ‘Manufacturing Terrorism: When Governments Use Fear to Justify Foreign Wars and Control Society’.

Last month, author, editor, and visionary futurist, Heidi Toffler died. She and husband Alvin were perhaps best-known for the 1970 book, Future Shock which, among other things, envisioned a near-future world where exponentially advancing computer technology combine with communications, mass media, and economic mechanisms to create an unprecedented convergence; the genesis of an integrated, global society. While the Tofflers didn’t live to see the fruition of the modern renaissance they predicted, it seems likely you and I will.

Dr. John Henry Clippinger is, by the reckoning Alvin and Heidi Toffler, just the man for our changing times; holding senior positions in big business, central government, and in the entrepreneurial sector, founding not one, but four technology companies. Dr. Clippinger is too allied with several policy foundations, and academic institutes, most notably at Harvard and Harvard Law School, Brandeis’ Florence Heller School, and the MIT Media Lab, where he works as a research scientist, and co-founded ID3 (cubed) with Sandy Pentland.

John too recently founded the Token Commons Foundation to “develop protocols for decentralized governance and self-sovereign identity”, and serves as advisor to Bancor, Atonomy, Cashaa, Decentralized Pictures, DCP, and Evident Proof. He’s co-editor, with David Bollier of one of the first books, ‘From BitCoin to Burning Man’, attempting to explain the potential of the Blockchain and self-organizing, distributed systems of governance, and author of  ‘A Crowd of One: The Future of Individual Identity’, and ‘The Biology of Business, Natural Laws of Enterprise’.

John Clippinger on the politics of technology, and moving beyond the socialist/capitalist economic dichotomy in the second half.

And; Victoria-based activist and long-time Gorilla Radio contributor, Janine Bandcroft will join us at the bottom of the hour to bring us up to speed with some of what’s good going on in and around our town in the coming week. But first, T.J. Coles and manufacturing consent, (with terrorism?).
